Well normally I'm on vacation right now, but when we're still in town on the 4th, we go up to a town a few miles north & watch the fireworks in the evening. I absolutely love watching them. Today's blogging challenge from 2Peas...challenge: what scrapbook paper line (or company) do you find yourself using often and what do you love about it?

I seem to use Pebbles Inc. products quite often. Not sure of any one reason why. The papers are heavier weight but with a smooth finish. Their lines tend to be simple with what I would call 'normal' colors. Nothing fancy or complex, just simple lines that do what they are meant to do. When I use stickers I like it when they are 'heavy' cardstock quality, which is how Pebbles stickers are. Funny thing is, if we were naming our favorite lines, I wouldn't have said Pebbles. But it is definitely one line that I use alot.

Sunday Blogger Challenge~ What do holidays mean to you? Do you have any special traditions for the holidays? What is your favorite holiday? Best holiday memory?

For some reason, holidays have never, for the most part, been especially exciting for me. Independence Day has always been my favorite followed by Christmas & Valentine's Day. As a family, we tend to celebrate several of the holidays on different days. Christmas with the whole family has always been on Christmas Eve. We do Christmas here with the kids on December 23rd. The whole family's Thanksgiving tends to be on a weekend at the beginning of November. Easter is usually on Palm Sunday. Labor Day weekend in this area is huge & always full of lots of events.

2Peas' Challenge for today is rather easy for me...challenge:what is your dream summer vacation?
Umm, that would/could be anything. My favorite holiday, by far, is Independence Day. Up until this year, I've always taken my vacation from work starting with Fourth of July weekend. Sometimes, we haven't gone anywhere, but still took the time off with the kids. This year, due to changing jobs, I am going to lose out on vacation. But I guess I'm still so lucky to be starting the new job that I'll try not to complain too much :-)

My favorite summer vacation has definitely been in 2002 when we went to the Wisconsin Dells & then on to Minnesota. I truly fell in love with the entire state of Minnesota. I also realized that in Minneapolis/St. Paul, I have no sense of direction & got lost every day. But it is absolutely on my short-list of places to build a summer home when I become independently wealthy!

As I think most of you can tell, I have a ton of 'favorites'. Obviously a lot of them are posted here on the blog. Some are better with free goodies, some with shipping prices, some with great coupons, some with super sales, some have better selections, & others have sites that are easier to manuever. In fact with all the online shopping I've done in the past, I've only ever come across one site that I didn't receive good results from. The Happy Scrapin Scrapbooking Design Team Competition is now OPEN! Display Your Scrapping Skills, Win Gifts and Let Your Creativity Shine! We are looking for creative, fun and inspirational people who love scrapbooking to join us as the Happy Scrapin' Scrapbooking Design Team.

To enter all you have to do is send a short description of yourself and your love for scrapbooking. Tell us a little about yourself. What is a "normal" day for you? Describe your scrapbooking style. What are your favorite products? Have you been published? Where? Are you currently on any design teams? If so, which ones? (this will have nothing to do with being chosen as a finalist, everyone has to start somewhere.) What do you feel you can contribute to Happy Scrapin' Scrapbooking site? And anything else that you want to share! Your 2 favorite and most creative layouts either 8 1/2" X 11" or 12" X 12" & 1 beyond the page item (card, minibook, tag, altered project etc).
Email us your entry to designteam@happyscrapinscrapbooking.net.

Submission requirements:
All entries should be clearly scanned and saved in JPG format at 500 pixels in width and not larger then 100KB. This size will enable our jury to see the layout and it won't crash our system! Entries should show your current style, as well as, display variety in your techniques. Layouts/projects that have been published are permissible provided they do not violate any agreement you have with the publisher. If your project was inspired by others, please make sure to give appropriate credit. Layouts/projects not following submission requirements may be removed without notice.

How will we pick our winners?
Upon contest close August 15th, 2006 we will select 10 finalists. Once we have a list of 10 finalists we will then request scrap resumes from each so we can find out more about who our finalists are. We will then narrow it down to get our winners. We will select our winners based on work submitted, participation and compatibility with forum members. Finalists will be chosen by August 20, 2006. Upon notification they will have 7 days to provide resumes and any other requested information. We hope to announce our winners by September 5, 2006.

Here is what will be required of Our Design Team:
2-3 layouts prepared with use of 80% of products you have picked from our store. Submit layout details, including products used and any special techniques in our online store idea gallery. Active participation on Message Board and Gallery. Including commenting in the members layout gallery, as well as, starting and participating in conversations and challenges on the message board. Help with input on product selection. Designers are expected to complete projects and maintain the same level of quality they showed during the selection period. Happy Scrapin Scrapbooking Store reserves the right to terminate any contract or relationship with the designer if expectations are not met.

Here is what you as a Design Team Member will get in return:

2Peas Blogging Challenge for today is "What's on your mind today?"

My mind feels like it's completely full & completely empty this morning at the same time. I feel like I've been 'vegging' all weekend & truth is that I haven't really accomplished anything at all. But at the same time, my mind is packed full of ideas, projects, things that need done, & of course, my job. I think that I just have too much going on my head to actually focus on any one thing. Here's the list in my head at this moment, in no particular order...

1. My 15-year-old daughter has her permit & will be finishing her driving this coming week. She's done very well, better than I had imagined. This marks the beginning of the next stage in her life & her independence. So far, I've always been able to trust her & I pray that continues.

2. My 14-year-old son seems to be just 'hanging out' this summer. I'm not sure that I like that or not. I want him to be able to just be a kid & not have anything to stress about, but it worries me a little. He's so smart, I just wish he was doing something other than just having fun. High school starts in August for him & I guess he'll have plenty going on then.

3. My better half is also job-hunting. He has owned his own business for the past few years & is getting back into the job market. He's had very successful jobs in the past, is one of the most intelligent men I know, & I wish him luck in this new stage of life.

4. My current job. There are so many things to do in order to close out my functions there. I'm the only one who knows how to do some of my tasks at work. I'll need to train people on some things. My assistant (for lack of a better word, because she's so much more than that) knows so many things, but I'd hate it if she has to pick up all the slack. She has enough to do already. I have to gear up several families & residents for my leaving. A few completely come to me for everything & I need to present a positive reassurance that they'll still have someone to turn to.

5. Of course, my new job. Excitement & fear. That's about the best way to sum it up right now. I completely read their philosophies this morning. It's like reading my own ethics when it comes to this industry. They firmly believe in the same values as I do. They believe that if you truly pay attention to Customer Service (capitalized for importance) & quality care, everything else will work out well. That is my mantra for success. I've had my own personal 5 points to great Customer Service on the wall in my office for years. I desperately tried to get my old boss & company to listen, but they never did. This company not only listens, but requires it. What a great concept!

UGH! Just lost my post that I had been working on for the past hour. Went to upload an image right before publishing & it completely closed all my windows while uploading. Guess that will teach me to save my posts before I'm completely finished. It bugs me though, because I shouldn't have to do that. Oh well, there are bigger priorities in the world.

This morning, as I was hoping, I received a phone call that I will always remember. It was an offer to come work for this wonderful company. Of course I said yes very quickly. My new boss sounded so absolutely happy that I agreed to come. I'll never be able to fully explain how much that phone call meant to me at this point in my life. After 12 years in healthcare & the past 4 years with a boss that has contributed to losing my confidence in myself, it was such a joyous feeling to hear someone genuinely excited about me! I've worked so hard these past 12 years to create a pretty good reputation in our area for quality care with everyone but my current boss. It's so nice to know that all's not lost. Right now the song about The future's so bright, I've got to wear shades. At this moment, I feel like I could conquer the world...

Well, not my ultimate dream job, but as I eluded to yesterday, I've been actively pursuing another job right now which I would love. Basically much of the same as what I've been doing for the past 12 years just with a different company. This company has impressed me so much that I almost feel like telling them that I'll take whatever position there that they have! Part of that probably stems from how disappointed I've been with my current working situation for the past 4 years. I had my 3rd interview yesterday & now am just waiting to hear the results. I really don't know which way it'll go. I didn't leave the last interview feeling very confident. I am truly happy simply that they were willing to spend so much time with me & giving me the opportunity. I firmly believe that everything in life happens to us for a reason. So whatever happens, I'm sure it'll be for the best in the long run. Thanks so much to those of you who have been keeping this in your thoughts.

My nerves are getting the better of me. I go for my 3rd interview with the company that I'm hoping to work for. I've never had to interview 3 times for anything. I'm not sure whether to take this as a good sign that I'm obviously still in the running or a bad sign that I wasn't able to nail it at the beginning, lol. I normally haven't been nervous before any interviews. I love what I do & have felt confident in my abilities. My career is about the only thing I ever have confidence with. It would be truly a fabulous thing to be able to work for them. They have values & high standards which I've been craving for quite some time from a company. I have the upmost respect for the person who would be my boss. They are definitely trying to hire a new unified team who all have the same mission & priorities which is quality of life. That's always been my mantra. Make the residents & families happy and everything else will fall into place. Now to go get ready for a wild, busy day with a job interview thrown in at lunchtime!

Wow, this one's kind of tough for me because there are so many things that I haven't scrapped yet. The most recent event, of course, is my parent's 50th anniversary. I need to copy all the photos that were used in the 30 minute video. That will be a pretty good sized project when I get to it. I desperately want to complete a Book of Me for both of the kids. There are so many experiences that I've had in life that the kids don't know about but would enjoy learning. But starting a project focused on myself is a little daunting.

2. My Fiskars 12x12 paper trimmer, although I really need to break down & buy a new one. This one seems to be saying to me, 'I'm tired, please replace me', lol.
3. 3L E-Z runner adhesive, truly my favorite.
4. Ribbon & flowers, even though they're not technically 'tools', I can't scrap without them.
5. My digital camera. Kodak EasyShare DX7630 purchased at the beginning of 2005. Sure there are fancier, more expensive models out, but I have loved this camera since the beginning. It's one of the best purchases I've ever made. Unfortunately I jammed my photo printer yesterday & cannot seem to fix it. I'm so disappointed because I really loved that also.

What a day for reflecting...Last evening I spent 2 hours with my daughter driving me. Wow, like most mothers I've always thought that it seems like children grow up so fast, but riding with her really brought the concept home. She actually did an awesome job. She has another week of classes & then 2 weeks of driving starting Tuesday. I'm excited for her, but sad for me. This marks the start of what I'm sure will be a whirlwind the next few years of finishing high school & starting college. These are the times when children's decisions can impact the rest of their lives so profoundly. Based on her track record though, I'm sure she'll choose her path well.

Had been hoping to receive a phone call today from another company that I'm very much hoping to work for in the near future, but it didn't happen. Maybe Monday...

My parents are celebrating their 50th Anniversary tomorrow evening with a huge party at our church. I'm sure (fingers crossed) the party itself will be spectacular & hopefully fun. To be married for 50 years is an amazing feat that most people never achieve. Although they've had their struggles at various points throughout the 50 years, they very obviously still love & respect each other. They truly have enjoyed their life together. It's quite an accomplishment. They've always set very high standards for us kids & never expected anything out of us that they didn't also do themselves. I had planned to write something to share at the party, but I still haven't. Not unusual since I seem to crave that last minute rush to complete a project! But it's hard to convey with words how blessed we were growing up in that household & how proud we have always been to be able to say that we're their children. That's it for now, my sister's due in soon from out-of-state.

My next scrapbooking tool that I 'have' to have. Actually, the reviews of the Crop-A-Dile by We R Memory Keepers have been quite good. The scrappers that I've spoke to that already have it say that it's worth the money. They only negative statement that I've heard is that it's reach isn't very long. I usually tend to put my eyelets on items before I place them onto my background sheets anyway.

Scrapbooking Ideas Blog & Other Observations on Memorial Day

I think I'm going to start posting a different blog everyday that I find interesting or helpful. Today's blog of the day (BOTD) is Scrapbooking Ideas. Worth taking a look in my opinion.

I spent most of today shopping with my daughter & my mother. We were quite surprised to find how many stores were closed or opened later in the day than usual. My daughter finally ended up with a few things, but I came back with just a new pair of everyday shoes. I guess that was better than nothing. We did stop briefly at Joann's so that I could run in, or so I thought, to grab some much needed gold mini brads. I was shocked when I got into the store. It was huge & packed with ladies. Definitely the biggest Joann's I've ever been in. I really wanted to stay all day, but we were in a time-crunch. And to top it off, there were numerous sales including all Joann's-brand products at 50% off without any coupons. I would rather have spent the entire day there instead of clothes shopping. I'm assuming that Joann's is gearing up for the new Archiver's that is opening this summer. I truly can't wait for that day. The nearest one thus far has been about 3 hours away & this will only be about 45 minutes or so.

Unfortunately when we got home I discovered that all of my email for the past 40 days is gone. I have no idea what happened, I've never had a problem before. As silly as it sounds, I feel like someone stole something valuable in my life. There were a ton of important messages during those days. I've tried everything I know to recover those emails without any success.

On an upside, QVC has scrapping shows on tomorrow (Tuesday). Creating Keepsakes is scheduled from 2am-4am, 1pm-2pm, and 8pm-10pm EST. I won't be able to catch the afternoon show, but I'll absolutely be glued to the TV for the other 2 scrapbooking shows. I never seem to buy anything off these shows, but I always do my best to watch. Even better if I'm able to scrap while watching.

Received notice from Scrapsy Daisy that they will not be accepting any more layout printing orders after June 10th. I've personally never used them, but I've heard their prices are quite competitive for those of you wanting to print out digital LO's.

We just finished up NSD Bingo (lasted most of May!) over at ScrapAddict. Even though I didn't win, we had a lot of fun. Thanks to those ladies running the message boards over there. They really seem to be a fun & friendly bunch.

On May 19th, the customers of Luv2Scrapbook received news that The Scrapbook Gallery had acquired the store. The following is part of the email that was sent:

Luv2Scrapbook is pleased to announce that it has been acquired by The Scrapbook Gallery. The Scrapbook Gallery owns and operates many independent scrapbook stores across the United States.

The Scrapbook Gallery will continue to offer the latest products in a timely manner at both the physical store of Luv2Scrapbook and the internet-based store, www.luv2scrapbook.com. The scrapbook consultants, design team, and all internet workings (including the shopping, gallery, and the message board) will continue in its present state.

On May 25th, we then received an update from the new owners, The Scrapbook Gallery. The owners state that they manage scrapbook retail and outlet stores throughout the Midwest and Southeast. They have four outlet stores in Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia, and Indiana, and in addition to Luv2Scrapbook, they own a store on the northeast side of Fort Wayne. They plan to add an 'outlet' section to the store where you can save up to 50% off the retail price of your favorite items! They have started it out with K & Company album kits.

Since this is one of my LSS (although 45 miles away), I was impressed that the new owners sent out a newsletter to us so quickly. In my opinion, that shows that customer service will hopefully be important to them. One of the owners is originally from Fort Wayne which should help greatly. I had great respect for the previous owner, Karen, and would love to see her great attention to detail be followed through with the new owners. Karen built a great following of scrappers in only 6 years of operation. With competition in the industry so fierce right now, it'll be interesting to see how much further the business can grow. Ideally with more sales :-)

Yesterday's Violin Recital went fairly well, although a little long in my opinion. My son did very well, but of course I'm quite biased. I don't think either of my teenagers realize how lucky they are to have such supportive grandparents. My mother played the piano for his solo & my father came to watch. This is such a busy time of year for my farming dad. The older he gets, I think he's conscious of how precious those few hours yesterday afternoon are in life. I am truly blessed with fantastic parents. Their 50th anniversary is approaching in June & I really don't know how to ever thank them for raising the 3 of us so well.

Off to grab some lunch, prepare to watch Nascar @ Talladega, & get out my scraps to finally finish my great-niece's 2nd birthday album (from November!). I'll finish browsing the scrapbooking sites later tonight hopefully.

just 1 week to go until LM's National Scrapbook Day celebrations, planning for
the big event is in full swing and we are brimming with anticipation. We're so
excited that we can't keep it to ourselves and thought it only fair that we
share a few secrets with you all!

The Spring violin concert last evening at school was actually very nice. The kids did such a wonderful job. Much to be proud of. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to get a nice picture to save my life! I'm not sure what the problem was. Every photo I took during the concert was blurry. Luckily my son has a recital on Saturday, so I'll be able to take some more pics. This will be in a totally different setting that might be better for photo ops.

EBB Creations is planning on a full day of events on NSD Saturday. Join them for a day filled with fun, games, challenges, contests, drawings, and of course prizes. They state that their 'Prize Patrol' will be out! Junkitz has put out a DT call for those interested named Junkitz Designer Draft 2006. Go to their website for complete details. The following is some of the information from their website...

Official Designer Draft '06 Rules:
Sponsor: The Designer Draft is sponsored by Junkitz, LLC 17 Sweetmans Lane Building 12 Manalapan, NJ 07726. By participating, you agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges and by these Official Rules.
Description: The Junkitz Designer Draft Contest will award three designers the opportunity to sign an exclusive one year contract with the Junkitz Design Team beginning January 1, 2007. Designers must forfeit membership with any other design teams for the duration of the contract. Five Honorable Mention winners and five International winners will receive prize packs of Junkitz products.
Promotional Period: The Designer Draft period begins May 25, 2006 and ends June 26, 2006, 11:59:59PM Eastern Time. All submissions must be received during the Promotional Period. The winners will be notified no later than July 14, 2006.
Eligibility: No purchase is necessary to win. The Designer Draft is open to all legal residents of the United States who are 18 years or older at the time of entry. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. By entering, entrant agrees to abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of Junkitz, which are final and binding.
